HAPPY THANKSGIVING...!!
Feedback yesterday...reported by Chukar...flew 390 sm in 6+42. The forecast said wave wasn't likely but I thought I'd try it anyway.
I didn't get out of the valley and did 10 legs and early it was strong, 18000' with speed brakes open sometimes to keep from going higher.
I had 70k southbound and 90-120k northwest bound. Later it was a little slower with hardly any clouds. It was a beautiful day to fly...!!
(flown in a 1-26)...
Today...cool sunny ridge with weak thermals and northerly flow aloft...
Virginia pk......(elev 8299 ft ASL).....
Slide mtn........(elev 9,694 ft ASL).....N 26-32 mph...temp 27...RH 6%...
Mt Warren...(elev 12,327 ft ASL).....
White mtn.....(elev 14,246 ft ASL).....missing
Barcroft RC..(elev 12,410 ft ASL).....missing
Trend...Sierra wave again the Friday after Thanksgiving...(many years ago I was "honorable ballast" with Dick Gantt to 31,500 ft ASL
in wave at Minden the Friday after Thanksgiving)...!!
Please note...just released...a documentary on "Gordon's 2061 km Sierra wave flight"...it can easily be considered a worthwhile
"tutorial" for Sierra wave soaring...you can see this computer friendly video version by accessing either of these websites:
You can buy from Gordon's site: http://sierramountaingallery.com/
Or at HD Soaring: http://hdsoaring.blogspot.com/
